From a Couples to an Engagement Shoot: A Beacon Hill Proposal with Paola and Nico

His approach is very natural and candid. We love our pictures - they really capture those sweet moments between us.
— Paola

Paola and Nico’s session in Beacon Hill started as something simple—at least, that’s what Paola thought. She had booked a couples shoot during their first trip to Boston, drawn to the neighborhood’s historic charm and timeless feel. What she didn’t know was that Nico had already reached out to me beforehand with a plan: he was going to propose.

As a Boston couples photographer, I worked closely with Nico to choose the perfect proposal location. While we considered well-known spots like Acorn Street, Louisburg Square and Rouvalis Flowers, we ultimately chose Cedar Lane for a more intimate and private setting—ideal for a heartfelt Beacon Hill proposal. When the session started, everything felt natural and relaxed as we explored the neighborhood, capturing candid moments and getting to know their story—Nico from Spain and Paola from Oklahoma, experiencing Boston together for the very first time.

At one point, a couple passing by stopped and asked if we were shooting engagement photos. Nico and I both froze for a split second, exchanging a quick glance, unsure of what to say while trying not to give anything away. Paola laughed it off, completely unaware of what was about to happen, and we kept moving through the streets like nothing had happened.

When we arrived at Cedar Lane, the energy shifted, and Nico got down on one knee. Paola said yes, and just like that, their Beacon Hill photoshoot turned into a Boston engagement session. The atmosphere instantly changed—filled with excitement, emotion, and that unmistakable just-engaged glow that makes proposal photography in Boston so special. Being trusted to capture such a personal, once-in-a-lifetime moment meant a lot to me, and it’s something I don’t take lightly—it’s an honor to be invited into stories like theirs and preserve them in a way they can return to forever.

We spent the rest of the session documenting their first moments as fiancés, wandering through Beacon Hill and capturing both digital and film images as I continue to explore film photography in my work. For couples searching for a Boston proposal photographer or planning a Beacon Hill photoshoot, this session is a perfect reminder of how meaningful these moments can be—especially when it’s your first time in the city and you leave with more than just photos, but a ring and a fiancé.
