Boston Through Fresh Eyes: A Beacon Hill Engagement Session with Tori and Jesse
Tori and Jesse moved to Boston from Texas and wanted engagement photos that actually felt like Boston, not just the polished postcard version of it. Which meant Beacon Hill, MBTA stops, hidden side streets, and me accidentally giving a walking tour fueled entirely by years of collecting useless Boston facts.
As a Boston engagement photographer, and someone who’s spent most of my life wandering this city, I always love photographing couples who are experiencing Boston a little differently than I do. It reminds me not to take any of it for granted.
From the start, the session felt more like hanging out than anything overly formal. Tori came with posing ideas and little location inspirations, which made everything feel collaborative right away. We wandered through Beacon Hill stopping wherever the light looked good, talking about New England versus Texas, our affinity for silver rings, and an ever-growing list of restaurants we all needed to try.
Somewhere between photos, I always become an accidental tour guide.
One unexpected side effect of living in Boston forever is collecting an absurd amount of completely unnecessary city knowledge. So naturally, throughout the session, I was sharing random neighborhood facts, pointing out tiny streets I love, and probably talking too much about old buildings while the three of us explored.
Honestly, sessions like this are my favorite because the city starts to feel like part of the conversation instead of just the backdrop.
Eventually, we made our way toward the Public Garden and Arlington Station because Tori wanted some MBTA-inspired photos, which honestly felt perfect. I love when couples include pieces of the city that actually reflect their experience here, not just the postcard version of Boston, but the everyday parts too.
Conveniently, Arlington Station was also my stop home, so we ended the session standing outside the T exchanging restaurant recommendations before finally heading our separate ways.
Honestly, a very Boston ending to the night.
