Saying Goodbye to Boston in Their First Apartment: An At-Home Session with Dani and Brendan
Dani and Brendan reached out while they were in the middle of a major life transition—packing up their first apartment together in Boston and preparing to move to California. They wanted to document the space they had built before leaving it behind, and that intention shaped the entire session.
As a Boston couples photographer, I’m often drawn to work that feels lived-in and personal, and this was my first full in-home couples shoot—something I’ve been wanting to explore because of how intimate and honest it can be. We started the session simply, sharing a glass of wine, which immediately set a grounded, welcoming tone. It was a quiet reminder of how meaningful it is to be invited into someone’s home and trusted to document it.
As the afternoon light shifted, we moved naturally through their apartment, following whatever felt right in the moment. Fleetwood Mac played in the background, and the session unfolded without pressure. I wasn’t just photographing them as a couple, but also the environment they had built together—the small details, the reflections in windows and mirrors, the corners of the space that quietly held their everyday life.
During our time together, they mentioned their first date had been just around the corner at a restaurant that has since closed. So we stepped outside and walked there, taking photos in front of the old signage. It added another layer to the session—an acknowledgment of where things began, just as they were preparing to leave.
More than anything, this shoot felt like documenting change. A home becoming memory, a city becoming part of their past, and a relationship moving into its next chapter. As a Boston couples photographer, I feel incredibly honored to be trusted with moments like this—where the work is really about preserving how something feels right before it transforms.
